Configure Basic RoamAbout Switch Properties
ToconfigurebasicRoamAboutswitchproperties,youspecifyaname,selectamodel, selectits
locationbywiringcloset,andselecttheMobilitySystemSoftware(MSS)youwanttorunonthe
switch.Optionally,youcanselectanMSSimagetodownloadwhenyoudeploychangestothe
RoamAboutswitch.
You
alsocanspecifyiftheswitchismanaged.ARoamAboutswitchthatisphysicallyinstalledas
wellasconfiguredcanbemanaged.Youcandeployconfigurationchangesonlytomanaged
devices,andRASMperiodicallychecksthemanagedRoamAboutswitchesinthenetworkfor
changes.Youalsocanfullyconfigurea
switchwithoutitbeingphysicallyinstalled(unmanaged).
Havinganunmanageddeviceinyournetworkplanmaybeusefulforpredeploymentpurposes.
Basicconfigurationalsoincludesspecifyinghowyouwillmanagetheswitch.Youcanmanageit
throughHTTPS,telnet,andSecureShell(SSH).YoualsocanenablemonitoringusingtheSimple
NetworkManagementProtocol(SNMP)toexchangeinformationaboutnetworkactivitybetween
yournetworkdevices.

Configure RoamAbout Switch Connection Information
YouneedtosupplyconnectioninformationfortheRoamAboutswitchonboththeRoamAbout
switchandinRASMwhenyoumaketheRoamAboutswitchamanageddevice.Connection
informationincludestheIPaddressoftheswitchandhowitwillconnecttothebackbone;for
example,bymeansofaVLAN
oraport.
Configure Boot Information
YouselectthesoftwareimagethattheRoamAboutwillusewhenreset,oroptionally,the
configurationfiletheRoamAboutwillusewhenreset.
